Christmas Spending Record

With Christmas on the horizon it is hard to keep a handle on everything - writing cards, buying pressies, getting nibbles in and everything else we do to make this time of year special for all.

In the past I have bought more presents than I had budgeted for because I had no proper record. I was not organised and so I decided I needed a solution. Here are a couple of documents that may help you organise and keep track of your present buying. I created these and have utilised them for years. If either of these are of any use please feel free to help yourself. They are Word documents.

Please feel free to download these and amend them as you see fit. Feedback would be most welcome.

The Next J K Rowling

Have you got an idea for a great reference book?
Are you the next J K Rowling?
Do you know how to launch it as an eBook?

If you answered Yes, to any of these we can help. Distinctive Support has released a number of ebooks. We encountered a few pitfalls along the way. We learnt from them. We learnt from people who had gone before us. We have applied our knowledge to get it right.

What Markets Should You Sell In?
Is your book public domain?
How should the book be formatted?
How do I set up bookmarks?
How should I create the book?

We deal with all these questions and more. When should you begin marketing? Now. No matter what stage you are at begin building your audience. You do that on scial media by talking to people. You can mention you are an author but do NOT go over the top. People are more likely to buy your books when it is released if you are ‘nice’. So just have general conversations with other people. Get to know them. Find other authors. Find book groups. Keep it low key. Hard sell will not work. Start now. One thing to remember on Facebook is that if you use a profile such as Joe Bloggs Author then you can only accept 5000 ‘friends’ but you can still have people follow you apart from that. If this is day one then I wouldn’t worry about that now.

If you have created your book already or have an idea then we can help you. There are two main options:

Training

We can train you on site (depending where you are based) and work on your book if it is completed or near complete. We will show you what you need to do and will provide written instruction as well. This will include a limited amount of after course remote support for any follow ups.

eCourse

You can sign up for our eCourse which will be a weekly course offering you advice on what to do. There are certain steps that need to be taken in order. There are Do’s and Don’t’s. We explain each of these. We want the process to be as simple as possible.

If you feel either of these could benefit you then please do not hesitate to contact us for more information at info@DistinctiveSupport.com.

Make Money Whilst You Sleep

The technology that we engage with daily is rapidly changing. That is a given. Where will it lead though? Tomorrow’s World used to give us an insight. Things are moving so rapidly that by the time they had filmed an episode it was out of date. Obviously not but it feels like it with developments these days.

One development that we are hurtling towards is digital media rather than physical products. Not a revolutionary insight but if you can adapt now then you can be ahead of the game if you embrace it.

MP3 Files

These devices are fairly new and can hold tens of thousands of songs. They are nearly obsolete though. We download music onto our computers or our phones. Or we purchase a device like an Amazon Echo. How ever we listen the ability to hold an incredible amount of audio content is now the norm.

How does this relate to you? Are you an expert at what you do? Can you provide interesting content? Can you generate audio information in the form of a course?

If yes, then start jotting down some ideas on the sort of content you can create.

eBooks

I have to admit I am a purist. I love holding a book. I love browsing book shops and perusing the covers and reading the sleeve notes. That said, there is an environmental costs that I find uncomfortable. So I own a Kindle. It has 700+ books on it. I never run out of anything to read. When I have to sit anywhere for a long time I am not wondering what will I do when I finish the book I am reading. Now I select a new one. It means I no longer read the 1974 Caravan Monthly in the waiting room. Hey ho.

Again, are you an expert in your field? Can you create interesting reference books? A book of useful information?

If yes, then please start thinking about the sort of books you can write.

eCourses

These are the above ideas but set up on downloadable or as weekly email courses. They are automated sending of information. Think of the sort of content you can create and perhaps how it should be separated into weekly parts.

The above media will not enable everyone to utilise it. The main reason I like them is: a physical product can be sold once only but a downloadable product can be sold over and over. The only real cost on these sorts of products is your time. So any you sell are virtually profit.

Example:

A physical book can be sold and will generate approximately £5-£20 profit, depending on content and physical attributes.
An eBook can be downloaded 1 million+ times in a year and is virtually pure profit.

Now before the sound of the till ringing in your ears gets too much reacting to this post will NOT turn you all into millionaires. It shows the potential of what you can do though. One other advantage is if you released a book in the UK it can be sold in the UK. If you upload on eBook it opens you up to a worldwide audience.

If you create digital media it is an automated service. It can be sold 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and 52 weeks of the year. As it is automated once you have set it up there is little for you to do.

We all see these ‘schemes’ that offer money while you sleep or make a fortune. Most are based on having a digital product available. They offer the product for a significant sum of money on the basis that the information is invaluable. You can do the same but offering your product for a modest sum. You will not necessarily bring in thousands each month. There is no reason why you cannot make money though. As it is automated you can get back to what you do best.

Sell The Sizzle

When you are selling a product or service people need a reason to buy it from you and not one of your competitors. Why should they buy it from you? You need to make sure you are fully versed with what you are selling. This is so you can approach your marketing in different ways.

Sell the sizzle not the sausage is an old phrase that is still relevant today. It refers to the benefits not the unnecessary detail. Think of the sizzling of the sausages in a pan. That will get the taste buds tingling and foretell of the delight of eating them (if you are not a vegetarian and you do actually like sausages). If I were to detail the components that make up a sausage you would be less inclined. The example below give one demonstration of what this means.

Example:

You are buying a luxury car. Which of these would make you more likely to buy the car?

A)    It has 4 wheels. It is blue. The seats are black leather. It has a dashboard.

B)    The seats in this car are comfortable and have in-built seat warmers. The smooth acceleration will get you from 0-60 in 4.1 seconds. You will travel in style and comfort and enjoy every second in the this dream car.

The points made in A are factual but are hardly inspiring. The points in B are more appealing and describe the benefits to the potential customer. By painting a picture of how the customer will feel, what they will experience, how they can benefit from buying your product or service you will reach a different emotion and can get the sale. Help them envision them using your service or product. It is a very powerful motivator for them.

Pretend you are your client. Why should you (as the client) buy from you? Why are your products/services needed? As a client what benefits would you get from using them? These benefits to the client are a strong way to market them. Will they experience the luxury of your products/services? What sensations will they feel? Comfort? Excitement? If you are selling sensory benefits then ensure your client knows that. Tell them how they will feel using your products. Consider what a customer can gain from you. Paint that picture.

Sell the sizzle NOT the sausage.

Can You Make Money While You Sleep?

As our technology evolves we are moving away from physical products. These are being replaced with downloadable content. Our books, music, video files can all be watched and saved onto phones, computers and cloud based storage. This gives incredible potential for those with the insight to take advantage. Can you benefit from this significant advancement?

What are you an expert in?
What knowledge do you have that people would like?
Can you create a weekly course?
Or a book?
A video of your expertise?

A physical product can be sold once only but a downloadable product can be sold over and over. The only real cost on these sorts of products is your time. There are no material costs, as there are no materials. So any you sell are virtually profit.

Example:

A physical book can be sold and will generate approximately £5-£20 profit, depending on content and physical attributes.

An eBook can be downloaded 1 million+ times in a year.

Audio Files

We download music onto our computers or our phones. Or we purchase a device like an Amazon Echo. How ever we listen the ability to hold an incredible amount of audio content is now the norm. Stored digital content is the future.

How does this relate to you?
Are you an expert at what you do?
Can you provide interesting content?
Can you generate audio information in the form of a course?

If yes, then why not start jotting down some ideas on the sort of content you can create.

That said, there is an environmental cost that I find uncomfortable. So I own a Kindle. It has 700+ books on it. I never run out of anything to read. I run out of battery but never something to read…at least not while I have power in the device. When I have to sit anywhere for a long time I am not wondering what will I do when I finish the book I am reading. Now I select a new one.

Again, are you an expert in your field?
Can you create interesting reference books?
A book of useful information?
Have you got a novel inside waiting to burst forth and entertain the world?

If yes, then please start thinking about the sort of books you can write.

eCourses

These are the above ideas but set up on downloadable or as weekly email courses. They are automated sending of information. Think of the sort of content you can create and perhaps how it should be separated into weekly parts.

Video Courses

A series of videos where you impart your wisdom can be set up to automatically send to someone when they pay for the course.

We all see these ‘schemes’ that offer money while you sleep or make a fortune. Most are based on having a digital product available. They offer the product for a significant sum of money on the basis that the information is invaluable. You can do the same but offering your product for a modest sum.
